Project Background

1. The Hangzhou Bay Sea Cross Bridge is a major cross-sea bridge spanning Hangzhou Bay in China. The bridge stretches from Zhengjiadai in Haiyan, Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, in the north to Shuiluwan in Cixi, Ningbo, in the south, with a total length of 36 kilometres.

2. The bridge has two navigation channels, namely the South and North Navigation Channels. Among them, the North Navigation Channel Bridge is a diamond-shaped double-tower double-cable-plane steel box girder cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 448 meters, and its navigation standard is for 35,000-ton ships. The South Navigation Channel is an A-shaped single-tower double-cable-plane steel box girder cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 318 meters, and its navigation standard is for 3,000-ton ships.

3. The remaining approach spans consist of prestressed concrete continuous box girder structures ranging from 30 to 80 metres in length. The non-navigable sections are divided into three main sections—south, central and north—with the offshore section of the bridge spanning 32 kilometres.
